New Website – Familiar Blogs, Fresh Start

Welcome to the renewed version of my website!

The site has been completely rebuilt in WordPress by my husband. Many of the previous blog posts have been carefully transferred, including their original dates and content.

What you won’t find here are the comments from readers on the old site (Wix). Unfortunately, those couldn’t be moved over, but I truly appreciate everyone who took the time to respond back then!

If you have questions, feedback, or just want to say hi — feel free to leave a new comment under any post. I’d love to hear from you!

Feel free to explore the updated site and enjoy all the videos, patterns, and tips!

Happy crocheting and weaving – and thank you for visiting!

    Closed captions and subtitles

The past 2 weeks I have been busy with adding closed caption to all my videos.

Adding closed captions means that all my videos now have English subtitles. The big advantage of this is that my videos are now easier to follow for the deaf and hearing impaired crocheters among us.

Before I started adding the closed captions, the videos had automatic generated captions. These were good, but not perfect. Sometimes they were even hilarious.

Understanding crochet and weaving terms was not always easy for YouTube and of course my somewhat Dutch accent didn’t help either. 😅

Another advantage of adding closed captions in English is that the automatic translation by YouTube to other languages will improve dramatically. YouTube offers subtitles for more than 100 languages.

How can you turn on the closed captions and the subtitles in other languages?

    Closed captions

Let’s start with the closed captions.

When you use the YouTube app, you touch the screen and then you see ‘CC’ (closed captions) in the top right corner of the screen. When you click on it, you can turn the closed captions on and off.

When you go to the YouTube website it looks a little bit different. When you hover your mouse over the screen, you will see ‘CC’ at the bottom of the screen. When you click on it, you can turn the closed captions on and off.

    Subtitels

Unfortunately the subtitles option is not available in the YouTube app.

You have to go to the YouTube website for this.

First you turn on the closed captions.

    Then you click on settings.

    Choose subtitles.

    Then choose auto-translate.

And then you will get a list with available languages.

It took me a lot of time to add the closed captions, but I am glad I did it. Now more people can follow my videos.

Time to continue with my Mochila project, that I have been neglecting the past weeks.

    Happy crocheting everybody.

  • Beginner workshop weaving

    Beginner workshop weaving

Friday May 31 Marieke and I gave a beginner workshop weaving.

The weather forecast was not really good, 14 degrees and raining. We really wanted to do the workshop in the garden, because inside would be a bit crowded.

The closer we came to Friday the better the forecast became.

An hour before I left I took out my lady shave and sun screen lotion. 😂

It suddenly was 22 degrees and sunny.

Normally I always double check the time the trains go, but this time I thought I remembered it right.

    I didn’t 😔

I had to wait 30 minutes for my second train.

Turns out I took the first train when I was supposed to leave the house.

The workshop went really well. We had 8 good students. After explaining the basics, everybody started making heddles and warping their loom.

Soon it was looking very colorful.

We started with plain weave and later we introduced pick up weaving.

In the picture on the right you see the results of the afternoon.

After the workshop Marieke and I treated ourself with dinner in a nice restaurant.
